House of Fraser - National Distribution Centre, Wellingborough

Renowned for its designer brands and exclusive collections, House of Fraser is one of the best-known names on the high street, with stores across the UK and Ireland.

The retailer’s transactional website services 32 countries worldwide and the strong growth of both online sales and house brand merchandise created the need for an additional warehousing facility.

A site for the new national distribution centre was secured in Wellingborough in 2011. BRAND Lighting were contacted in the summer of 2017 as work was beginning on two new mezzanine floors, offering a further 70,000 square feet of warehousing space.

A lighting proposal for the two new floors had already been submitted but the procurement team at House of Fraser were keen to see an alternative solution.

The design team at BRAND went to work interrogating the existing proposal, building plans and most importantly, the ergonomic use of the different spaces. It immediately became obvious that energy and cost savings could be made without compromising on product quality, lux levels or warranties. In fact, we were certain the solution could be improved.

Dividing the warehouse into different areas based on usage and likely occupancy we designed a solution using Saturn LED battens, market leading Tridonic control gear and state of the art CP Electronics sensors, offering an initial capital saving of over 35% on the initial, competing proposal.

With strong manufacturer partnerships we were able to supply all the fittings, control gear and sensors in an extremely short time frame and according to a very strict works schedule. We also submitted at no extra cost, full lighting schemes and wiring diagrams for the convenience of the on site engineers.

Incredibly, from first contact to completion, the entire project including specification, supply and installation took just four weeks.
